Where to Find Vegan Sushi in Los Angeles

 

Love sushi, but sick of being stuck with just cucumber and avocado rolls? Then read on to discover a few of the best places around the city that are serving up some of the most extravagant and delicious vegan sushi rolls.

 

Shojin

Downtown LA and Culver City

Shojin is probably your best bet for vegan sushi. Along with menu items like ramen and appetizers, this fully-vegan Japanese eatery serves several different sushi rolls with names like The Art of The Craze, Crunchy Tiger, and Kiss of the Spider Woman. Their rolls feature ingredients like “caviar,” wasabi mayo, “crab,” crispy potato, soy “chicken,” and more.

 

 

Blue C Sushi

Hollywood and Newport Beach

While not all vegan, Blue C has a lot of specifically-labeled vegan options, including their V-8 Roll, which is filled with tempura green bean, cucumber, gobo root, avocado, pico de gallo, and chili sauce. They’ve got other vegan sushi rolls too, along with vegan dishes, like their Yakiudon Bowl and Sesame Noodles.

 

 

Pomegranate

Beverly Grove

Totally-vegan Pomegranate has three different handrolls – their Baked “Crab Cake” Hand Roll, their Dynamite Hand Roll, and their Crunchy Dynamite Hand Roll. They also have six different types of sushi cakes (basically, fancier single rolls) – Dynamite, Pumpkin “Cheese,” Sweet Potato, Crunchy Dynamite, Ume Mushroom, and Baked “Scallop.”

 

 

Wild Living Foods

Downtown LA

Raw and mostly-vegan (some dishes contain honey), Wild Living offers a few different vegan sushi options. For example, their Geisha Roll features Irish cream cheese, jalapeno poppers, tomato, and avocado. Just look for the “V” symbol next to the item to indicate it’s vegan.

 

 

The Grain Café

Mid-City and Long Beach

Vegan eatery, The Grain Café, has two different sushi rolls on their menu – their Super Roll and their Dragon Roll. The first is basically a veggie roll consisting of cucumber, carrots, mango, red bell pepper and avocado, and the second’s ingredients include “tuna,” cucumber, carrots and avocado.

Whole Foods

Various Locations

If you’re looking for vegan sushi, but in a hurry, head to your local Whole Foods for grab-and-go sushi that’s already made. Most locations usually have several vegan-labeled sushi rolls featuring ingredients like black rice, vegetables, mango, spices, and more. Some other rolls may also be vegan, although not labeled as, but be sure to double check the ingredient list.

Green Earth Vegan Cuisine

Pasadena

Green Earth Vegan Cuisine offers one sushi option, their Quinoa Sushi. This roll consists of organic red and white quinoa with carrots, cucumber, organic alfalfa sprouts, avocado, and portobello mushroom wrapped in sushi nori.

M Café

Melrose and Beverly Hills

M Café is a macrobiotic eatery that has a daily selection of sushi, which includes some vegan varieties. For example, they usually have their Vegan Tuna Sushi and their Vegan Tuna Avocado Roll, which both include “tuna” (made of soy-compressed tomato).

 

 

Au Lac

Downtown LA and Fountain Valley

Plant-based Vietnamese eatery Au Lac’s sushi option is their Cali Roll – nori sushi with fresh coconut, dulse, avocado, macadamia nuts, cucumber, and bell pepper. It’s served with pickled ginger and tamari sauce.

 

 

Guasave Roll

Ontario

If you’re in the Inland Empire area and craving sushi, head to Guasave Roll in Ontario for a fully-vegan menu that includes items, like their Mango Roll, Caterpillar Roll, and Popcorn Roll, along with breaded rolls – their Guasave Roll and Guamuchilito. All of their rolls have “crab” in them, and other interesting ingredients include “eel” sauce and “shrimp” tempura.
