Business Spotlight: Earth Fare

A North Carolina-based grocery that focuses on fresh, local, organic products, this new addition to the Kalamazoo scene offers supermarket shopping with a soul. According to their website the chain’s operating philosophy is to provide food free of:

  • Added hormones
  • Artificial fats and trans-fats
  • Artificial sweeteners
  • Bleached or bromated flour
  • Antibiotics
  • High-fructose corn syrup
  • Artificial preservatives
  • Artificial colors or flavors

We sat with Barbara Ventura, EarthFare’s Regional Marketing Director, to learn more about what this gentle giant has to offer. With thirty-seven stores in the Midwest, Southeast, and mid-Atlantic areas, EarthFare believes healthy food not only positively impacts well-being but should be readily available to all.

VegOut’s favorite spot to head is the deli with ready-to-eat vegan options such as Tuscan Bean Salad, Mock Curry Chicken Salad, and regular Mock Chicken Salad. Today we tried Sweet Korean Kim Chi Marinated Tofu with the Asian Sesame Kale. Still have room for dessert? Try one of EarthFare’s Vegan Chocolate Chip or Vegan Everything cookies. Or maybe go for one of their vegan cupcakes. Just ask at the bakery counter as the cupcakes are usually stocked in back.

EarthFare takes pride in its store brand products. Held to high standards, these products are made available at affordable prices. EarthFare also takes pride in what it refers to as its “Boot List,” the list of ingredients it refuses to accept in any of the items it carries. For the complete list click here
