As fall makes its way into our lives and others are dreaming of pumpkin lattés, sweater weather, and s’mores filled bonfires, we here at VegOut dig our heels in and eek out every last bit of summer we can get. As such, we found ourselves recently in a few of the ice cream shops around town. Finding dairy-free frozen treats can be a challenge but we were more than happy to do this research for you.
6118 S. Westnedge Avenue
Located on South Westnedge in Portage, The Yogurt Co. is actually, and no big surprise here, a frozen yogurt shop. Don’t let that stop you from heading on inside. They stock a vanilla, chocolate, and vanilla/chocolate swirl dairy-free ice cream with almond milk as its base. This is a new product and is clearly marked as vegan. Choose your ice cream, then choose your toppings. Yogurt Co. offers many vegan options. Try any of the fruits (kiwi, strawberries, blueberries, coconut, pineapple), nuts (peanuts, cashews, almonds), or Oreos. They even stock a topping called Mochi that is a cross between a marshmallow and a gummi treat. We checked the label on this one and, marketed as a sweet rice cake, Mochi is totally vegan!
Not in the mood for ice cream? Try any of Yogurt Co.’s juices. Fresh pressed and cold, these contain no added sugar and only fresh fruits and veggies. The smoothies are great, too, and can be ordered with juice as the base instead of yogurt.
Smoothies, juice, or dairy-free ice cream! The Yogurt Co. is a vegan win!
