I headed back to the dining halls in search of vegan fare. This time, I paid a visit to Kalamazoo College. Welles Dining Hall, K College’s main dining facility, is located in the Hicks Center and houses a multitude of vegan options.
The dining hall offers brunch every Saturday with both breakfast and lunch style vegan options. I found myself with many choices and a very full plate! The breakfast options include fresh fruit, cereal with Silk brand soy milk, hash browns, and oatmeal with a plethora of toppings. Lunch items are tomato pasta, steamed vegetables, and my personal favorite, Italian White Bean and Kale Stew served with a roll.
Welles offers a special vegan/vegetarian station that provides vegan condiments and toppings, plant-based milks, and dedicated cooking equipment for toast, bagels, sandwiches, and more. Adorned with vegan informational posters, this station offers hot plant-based entrées for lunch and dinner including BBQ tofu sandwiches, black bean cakes with veggies, and Quinoa and Cashew Stuffed Squash.
And don’t forget the desserts! Welles features daily vegan treats such as cookies, cupcakes, and muffins.
While these plant-based options provide daily sustenance for the college students, the dining hall is also open to the public.
When searching for vegan options at Welles, just look for the dark green “V.”
